The story of Blackrocks begins in interruption.
An obsidian ritual is underway. Warlocks of the Obsidian Core transmute stone to strengthen their dominion. Power gathers. Symbols ignite. And before the spell can be completed, the Guardians of the Mountain strike.
One of many clans sworn to Emberrest’s defense, the Guardians descend from stone and shadow, meeting the warlocks and their armies head-on. Flame clashes with granite. Magic fractures against resolve. The ritual falters. Its rhythm slows. Its pattern breaks.
Of the many stones bound within the circle, all but one fracture and fall silent.
The battle ends in victory for the Guardians. They suffer minor casualties, but the warlocks and warriors of the Obsidian Core are defeated. When the last enemy falls, the Guardians depart, returning to the mountain paths from which they came.
The battlefield empties.
No living golem remains.
At the heart of the broken ritual, a single obsidian shard lingers, still illuminated, still changing.
In the silence that follows, without command, without witness, and without a completed spell to define it, the shard becomes something more. It awakens alone. It does not know what it is, nor what it was meant to be. It simply endures.
Before any living golem ever returns to that place, the shard adapts.
Stone shapes stone. Mountains teach form. The obsidian fragment learns weight, stance, and presence, taking the shape of a golem long before it is ever seen. Its true form, the floating shard from which it was born, remains unseen by all others.
When life finally crosses its path, they do not meet a shard.
They meet Blackrocks.
No golem who encounters him knows his origin. None have seen his true form. Though born of obsidian magic, Blackrocks bears no visible mark of the warlocks or the Obsidian Core. He stands as a mountain golem, familiar in shape, steady in presence.
When conflict returns, he does not craft armor.
He draws it.
From the minerals of Emberrest itself, from stone and metal shaped by time and pressure, his form adapts. His body reshapes to meet necessity, mass shifting, edges sharpening or softening as the moment demands. What he becomes is dictated not by design, but by purpose.
He does not conquer.
He does not command.
He protects.
Here, Blackrocks stands clad in battle armor, shaped by Emberrest itself, ready to defend the golems he now calls family. Not because he was forged for war, but because he learned to become what the moment required.
Forged unseen.
Shaped in solitude.
Still standing.
Only 68 exist.
